Abstract

Protection and preservation of environment is now has become an international concern. The international community is realizing that in order to tackle environmental disasters caused by private actors, imposing of obligations and their enforcement should cover non-state entities too. Since multinational corporations are largely responsible for environmental damage the international community has started addressing the issue of environmental accountability of multinational corporations. In this study an attempt is made to examine the reasons/justifications for imposing accountability directly on multinational corporations for environmental violations.
